Tutorial: Block/Disable iAds on iOS devices!

1st, no jailbreak at all. It works in iOS 5, iOS 6 and iOS7.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

2nd, go to http://oo.apple.com/ to opt out from iAd data collection through default browser safari.

3rd, go to Settings > Location services (Privacy in iOS 6.X), scroll to the end, System Servicesturn off Location-Based iAds, and Diagnostics & Usage if needed.

  1.Settings > Location services
2. System Services

3. Location-Based iAds

----------------------------------- ----------------Non jailbrokens stop here------------------------------------------------------

For jailbroken iOS, 1st, apply the three steps above for Non jailbroken iOS, and then go to Applications via iFile or other tools (root directory: /Applications)

/Applications

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

2nd, rename Adsheet.app (underlined), I add a "b" at the beginning and the end of it respectively (see pic below), no add-on is needed from Cydia! And iAd Killer doesn't work anymore!
Before and After

Afterwards, all iAds are gone! Enjoy your iAd-free iOS devices.

Important Update:  Approaches above ONLY apply to ads/iads via Apple advertisements. If you need to block malicious In-App ads, please download a modified hosts file (including thousands of ad media/bots/address worldwide) at my Baidu Cloud, and you will see the download page below and then click the button in the red circle

After downloading the host file, you can open it via notepad, and copy the URL you want to block to your own host file, or simply drag and drop it to /etc folder as shown below, this is the ultimate way to block the in-app and CYdia ads.

FOR YOUR INFORMATION:

This host file will block ad servers from CNN, AP Mobile, USA Today, Engadget, CNET, Bloomberg, NYTimes, and also block ad servers of some popular games including Angry birds, Outworded and etc, part of which are shown as follows:

  8. You can also just delete this folder with no ill side-effects. Did this on iOS 6.1 (iPod Touch 4G)

  9. I had an AdBlocker that would block iAds before this, but this is very nice because it actually stops iAds from running in my background processes taking up what valuable RAM I still had not being used. I have an iTouch 4 on iOS 6.1.2, and believe me, it is laggy!
